On May 10th the United Methodist Church’s General Conference will commence in Portland, OR. 800 UM delegates will gather from around the globe to set policy, priorities, and budgets for the coming 4 years. As a part of this process, delegates will consider a considerable number of proposed changes to the Book of Discipline, the guiding laws and principals of the UMC. No one issue will be more deeply discussed and debated than that of the matter of acceptance and treatment of gay and lesbian people in the life of the UMC.
Recently Adam Hamilton, the senior pastor of the 20,000 member Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, KS posted the following blog on the subject. The article entitled: The Bible, Homosexuality & the UMC is the first of a two-part article exploring the subject of homosexuality and the UMC. We encourage our readers to thoughtfully and prayerfully consider these thoughts from Rev. Hamilton.
